Rocher des Doms

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Avignon, On y danse, on y danse !
Occupied as far back as prehistoric times, the Rocher des Doms has always been a prime spot. This rocky outcrop does not only offer stunning views of the surrounding area, but it is also a safe haven from the vagaries of the Rhône river, some 30 meters below. It was once home to a Roman city and later a medieval castle. In 1830, it was transformed into the beautiful Jardin des Doms, an English landscape garden offering stunning panoramas of the city and the Rhône. We’ll be heading into the garden shortly, but feel free to explore now or come back for a leisurely stroll later. It’s the perfect spot to unwind during your visit.
