This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Auxerre, In the Footsteps of Cadet Roussel

Saint-Pierre Church is one of Auxerre’s must-see landmarks, showcasing a striking blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles, visible in its façade and bell tower, resulting from its restoration in the 16th and 17th centuries.

First mentioned in documents from the 6th century, the church is located in the heart of the old town. It once stood outside the city’s fortifications and was destroyed in the 8th century during the Saracen raids. Over the centuries, it was destroyed and rebuilt multiple times, especially during the religious wars that left a deep mark on Auxerre.

Its 17th-century classical façade features statues of the city’s patron saints, including Saint Vincent, protector of winemakers, and Saint Cartaud, protector of butchers.

This majestic church has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1962
