Ermou Street

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Athens, At the roots of western civilization
Forget the cute little boutiques you’ve been seeing – Ermou Street is a whole new ball game! This is Athens’ prime shopping street! Here, you will find all your favorite international brands. It’s a shopper’s paradise if you’re looking to splurge on designer labels. Ermou Street is actually one of the oldest streets in Athens, built all the way back in 1835. It runs from Syntagma Square all the way down to Thissio, west of the Acropolis. Today, it’s home to a multitude of shops catering to all tastes. It is named, of course, after the winged god Hermes, messenger of the gods and protector of merchants. Makes perfect sense, right?
