Anafiotika neighborhood

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Athens, At the roots of western civilization
One could say that this picturesque neighborhood at the foot of the Acropolis looks like a Cycladic island! It may be small –meaning you can explore it in no time– but it promises to enchant you with its uphill cobblestone alleys and picture-perfect whitewashed houses. If you’ve already visited the Cyclades, you’re sure to have a feeling of déjà-vu; the resemblance is uncanny! Anafiotika was built in the 19th century, at the time when King Otto took the throne. Legend has it that the builders were actually the king’s masons, those who also built the royal palace! Most of them were originally from the small Cycladic island of Anafi, and they wished to bring a piece of their homeland to the heart of Athens. Here, you really feel as if you are on an island, well away from the hustle and bustle of the Greek capital! It’s a little slice of paradise perched on the hillside of the city’s most iconic landmark. Feel free to stray from the itinerary for a moment, get lost in the picturesque alleys and discover hidden corners with breathtaking city views!
