Adrianou Street

01 rue adrianou poi grand

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Athens, At the roots of western civilization

This is Adrianou Street, one of the busiest streets in Athens. It’s packed with cafés and restaurants with a view of the Ancient Agora, one of the most important archaeological sites in the city. You’re sure to enjoy strolling down this alleyway that’s cheery and welcoming by day and festive by night! Like everywhere else in the city, you’ll meet a staggering number of little felines wandering around in search of a bit of food. In fact, Athens is considered to be the European city with the most cats. They have even become one of the symbols of the capital. Unfortunately, most of these cats have no owners, and are the result of a lack of sterilisation campaigns to prevent unwanted litters. As a result, the number of cats in the city is bigger every year and they eat what they can find. Hopefully, many residents and associations are on hand to help them. Many sterilisation programmes are being put in place to control this overpopulation, which in a way delights residents and visitors alike, but can quickly become problematic for the city and the cats’ well-being. Either way, you’ll probably be impressed by the number of cats you’ll meet!
