Take a look at the building on your right, whose top is a lovely shade of blue. Simply known as the Blue Mansion, it is adorned with magnificent mosaics and is one of the rare examples of Art Deco architecture in Angers. This unusual building was built between 1927 and 1929 by Gabriel Crêtaux, a businessman and director of the Anjou Hotel. He brought together two talented individuals, the Anjou architect Roger Jusserand and the mosaicist Isidore Odorico, to design this colourful house, meticulously decorated with its many mosaics. It took just two years to build this authentic Art Deco masterpiece, considered to be one of the most beautiful in French private architecture! The interior also features mosaics, with some flats entirely covered in the superb colours designed by mosaic artist Odorico. Unfortunately, only residents are allowed to enter this magnificent building, but you’ve already had a taste of the art used in this 7-storey building! Isidore Odorico was born in Rennes into a family of Italian craftsmen. After World War I, he took over the family business and worked on numerous building sites, creating Art Deco designs that became very popular. Here we have one of his most important creations, which also marked a real turning point in his career. Furthermore this was the very first building with a lift in the city. It has one of the largest mosaic-covered facades in the Art Deco movement. No wonder it’s been listed as a Historic Monument!
