This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Amsterdam, Along the canals
Formerly a Catholic city, Amsterdam then became a Reformed city in 1578, transforming Catholic churches into Protestant ones. This church welcomed worshippers for centuries, until 1929. It even caught the attention of the famous Impressionist painter Claude Monet, who depicted it in 1874 in his painting “The Zuiderkerk, Amsterdam”. Today, the church serves as a venue for exhibitions, concerts, seminars, and conferences, thus continuing to play a cultural role in the city center.
