Saint-Leu District

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Amiens, Heart of the Somme Valley
This is without a doubt the most picturesque district in Amiens. Originally built in the Middle Ages, the Saint-Leu quarter was once home to weavers, dyers and tanners, who made the most of the nearby water and the 25 working mills to run their businesses and sell their goods. Today, the area has kept all its charm and draws plenty of visitors eager to stroll along the canals and admire the colourful houses made of wattle and daub, timber, and brick. It’s right here that you’ll understand why Amiens was nicknamed the Little Venice of the North — a name given by Louis XI himself! Boats glide slowly along the water, slipping under tiny footbridges, to the delight of tourists discovering the district from the canals. With its warm and lively atmosphere, Saint-Leu is also a favourite spot for locals, who gather in the nearby bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Now it’s your turn to wander and soak up the charm of one of Amiens’ most iconic neighbourhoods.
