Porta do Norte

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Albufeira, The Saint-Tropez of Portugal
This is one of Albufeira’s most important historic relics: the Porta do Norte. There may not be much left of it, but the few stones at the junction of Joaquim Pedro Samora Street and Henrique Calado Street have survived centuries! They were once part of a fortified gate, serving as one of the main entrances to the medieval castle built in the 13th century. In 1993, redevelopment and beautification works were carried out to preserve this piece of history. Let yourself imagine this spot nine centuries ago, where knights and noble figures would enter Albufeira!
