All About the Algarve

10 tout connaitre sur l algarve poi grand

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Albufeira, The Saint-Tropez of Portugal

While you stroll along Albufeira’s harbour, let me share a few facts about the Algarve. By the end, you’ll know nearly everything there is to know about this beautiful Portuguese region that welcomes countless visitors each year. The Algarve’s biggest draw is certainly its beaches. With nearly 200 kilometres of coastline, it offers endless spots for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing by the sea. It’s bordered by what locals call the “Sea of the Algarve”, fed by both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean — though most people just consider it part of the Atlantic. The Algarve also has a pleasant climate nearly all year round, with an average of 300 sunny days each year, so you can truly make the most of its beaches! Eighty-five of the region’s beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag label—a mark of high environmental standards and excellent water quality. These are some of the country’s cleanest and safest beaches. Algarve’s population varies significantly between winter and summer. Outside the tourist season, it’s one of the least densely populated regions in Europe. In summer, the population can double, as visitors pour in from around the world. It’s no surprise that this is Portugal’s number one tourist destination. There’s something here for everyone — whether you’re into history and culture, hiking, seafood tasting, beach days, or vibrant nightlife. So if you’re staying in the Algarve for a while—you definitely won’t be bored! Enjoy!
