If you like to party, make your way to Rua da Oura—better known as The Strip Albufeira. It’s packed with bars, restaurants, and clubs where locals gather for long evenings of dancing, drinking, and eating. The
street leads to Praia da Oura, a beach nearly one-kilometre long, offering stunning views and plenty of space to relax.
Paderne Castle
Just a 30-minute drive from Albufeira, you can explore the remains of Paderne Castle, built in the 12th century by the Almohads. A remarkable example of Muslim military architecture, its ancient walls have stood for centuries, and it’s one of the seven castles on the Portuguese flag.
Benagil caves
You can take a boat tour from the beaches of Benagil, Carvoeiro, Lagos, or Albufeira to visit the breathtaking Benagil caves—one of Portugal’s most stunning natural sites. These are sea caves where rock, sea, and sky come together in perfect harmony, thanks to an open dome that lets sunlight stream into the cave. It’s a must-see, but make sure to book ahead, as it’s very popular.
Silves
The city of Silves, once the capital of the Algarve, is a charming destination that still bears the marks of its rich past. It features a fortress built by the Moors, impressive old gates scattered throughout the streets, and a beautiful Gothic cathedral. Stroll through its colourful alleyways and soak in the classic Portuguese atmosphere.
Loulé Market
Head to the town of Loulé and wander through its authentic market with Moorish-inspired architecture, where you can find regional crafts and sample a variety of local specialities. You can round off your day with a visit to the old castle and the medieval streets lined with cafés and traditional shops.
Faro
If you have more time, I highly recommend visiting Faro, the capital of the Algarve. Less than an hour from Albufeira, it’s a city steeped in history, known for its unique architecture, landmarks, old town, and museums. Head to Faro to dive deeper into the history of this fascinating region!
