Sacred Heart Church

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Ajaccio, Imperial City
This beautiful white neo-Byzantine church is the Sacred Heart Church, located in the heart of the foreigners’ neighborhood. It takes its name from the date of its consecration, June 7, 1920, the holiday of the Sacred Heart. It was built as a tribute to the Corsicans who died in the Great War. Its superbly sculpted façade was designed by Jacquemus Robert, and its stained-glass windows by the painter Valentine Reyre. The interior, by contrast, is clean and refined. Inside, you’ll find a visitors’ book listing the names of the 351 Ajaccians who died for their country.
