Lantivy Palace

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Ajaccio, Imperial City
This beautiful yellow neoclassical building, in the middle of a tropical garden, is the head office of Corsica’s prefecture. Its construction was authorized by royal order in 1822 and completed in 1830. It bears the name of Gabriel de Lantivy de Kerveno, who was Corsica’s prefect at the time. The palace also serves as a residence for the region’s prefects. It is partially listed as a historic monument. The original edifice, designed by architect Alphonse de Gisors, consisted solely of the central building. The two side wings are more recent. The Lantivy Palace is also home to the Good Pastor sarcophagus, visible in the entrance hall. This 3rd-century Carrara marble relic was found in the Saint-Jean district in 1938, on the property of Mr. Manganelli, who donated it to the Corsican Archaeological Association. Unfortunately, the palace is not open to visitors, so continue along Napoléon Avenue to our next point of interest.
