Juan Ripollés’ Sculptures
This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Aix-Les-Bains, The Alpine Riviera
You might be wondering about those colorful statues standing right in front of the Casino, strikingly contrasting with the building’s pristine white façade. They were commissioned in 2012 by the Tranchant group, which operates the Grand Cercle Casino, as part of the entrance redesign and were renovated in 2024.
Created by Juan Ripollés, a Spanish artist known for his joyful sculptures featuring exaggerated shapes and vibrant colors, his works can be seen in cities around the world, from Madrid to Tokyo, Venice to Seoul. Here, each statue has two faces, greeting you no matter which side you approach from.
Ripollés’ choice reflects a desire to create a playful, instantly recognizable piece, almost as if it’s sprung from a child’s imagination. Positioned opposite the Casino, these figures give a clear nod to the world of gaming, one holds a playing card, the other a pair of dice.
