Floral Park of the Thermes
This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Aix-Les-Bains, The Alpine Riviera
You’re now in the heart of Aix-les-Bains’ most beloved green space: the Floral Park of the Thermes. This was once the garden of the Marquises of Aix, whose château stood right next door. Later acquired by the spa, it was transformed into an English-style garden designed to be a perfect spot for leisurely strolls. Opened to the public in 1869, it was considered the city’s finest promenade at the time.
What really catches your eye here is the beautiful Moroccan fountain unfolding before you. Installed in 2005, it was crafted by Moroccan artisans who traveled specially to create it using traditional techniques. The fountain commemorates the 1956 agreements on Morocco’s independence, which were negotiated right here in Aix-les-Bains, highlighting the town’s little-known diplomatic role in Franco-Moroccan history.
Wander further, and you’ll find seasonal flowerbeds, statues, shaded benches, and an open-air theater. This outdoor space, developed in the 20th century, still hosts concerts, performances, and summer events today, offering a natural and intimate setting. It’s a vibrant place where culture, relaxation, and the cosmopolitan spirit of the city come together.
