What to do in Limoges
1. Saint-Etienne Cathedral
Category: €/Cultural
Description: Every town has a monument of which it is proud. A monument that represents it well. For Limoges, it’s undoubtedly Saint-Etienne’s Cathedral. The building has had a chequered history, but has managed to stand the test of time and today stands as an emblematic monument. First and foremost, it was a Roman cathedral dedicated to the beloved feast of Christmas. Construction began in 1273, and was finally completed around the 19th century. Its Gothic architecture gives it a mysterious air, and its interior decoration is typical of the Renaissance period. Bonus: if you go there after dark, you’ll have the chance to admire its Saint-Jean portal, which shines like a star in the half-light. It’s a real sight for sore eyes, and one that tourists love to capture on film. Open every day from 9.30am to 6pm except Sundays, this is an activity full of wonderful discoveries.
2. Spend a few moments at the Francophone Multimedia Library
Category: €/Cultural
Description: We live in the digital age, where screens and social networks are king. Do you remember the last time you opened a book and sat down to be transported into a fantastic story? For some of us, that was a long time ago! Take a break from your visit to Limoges and visit its huge Francophone library. Where novels, books and comic strips of all kinds sit proudly, eager to be opened and read to the last line. Some readers will come away with a headful of recipes to try out at home; others will be dreaming of the hero character in their story; while others will be happy to have leafed through that personal development book that taught them so much about themselves and the world around us. What’s more, it’s a perfect opportunity to introduce young children to reading, with its colourful pictures and exciting adventure stories. See you at Place Aimé Césaire, from 10am to 6pm, except on Mondays and Sundays.
3. The Adrien Dubouché Museum
Category: €/Cultural
Description: It may sound crazy, but many people on this earth are unaware that Limoges is THE city of porcelain par excellence. And when you think of porcelain, you think of beautiful things to see, and when you think of beautiful things to see, you think of… a museum. The Musée Adrien Dubouché on Place Winston Churchill depicts the history of porcelain and ceramics in general. Dating back to 1845, this is the largest collection of porcelain known to date. During your visit, you’ll have the chance to wander through the collections and admire these little marvels. Then how about a hands-on art workshop on a specific theme? With the help of a craftsman and a connoisseur, you can create your own porcelain object. What a wonderful souvenir of Limoges! The museum is open every day except Tuesday, from 10am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 5.45pm, and temporary exhibitions are often organised.
4. Visit the Jardin d’Evêché

Description: If the rue Jacques de Condorcet is famous in Limoges and neighbouring towns, it’s because it contains the splendid Jardin d’Evêché à la Française, recreated in 1837. This is the city’s green lung, where lovers love to stroll hand in hand, and where families come for a stroll to spend a special moment between themselves and this beautiful nature. A perfect connection. The best thing about the Jardin d’Evêché is that, depending on the season, it takes on a completely different look every time: in autumn, summer, spring or even winter, it’s a different place every time. The flowers open, decked out in their most beautiful colours, the trees unfurl their branches… A sight for sore eyes! Nature does such beautiful things, after all: as well as offering you a magnificent panorama to contemplate, it allows you to enjoy an extraordinary sense of calm and serenity.
