3. Bassins de la Villette

Come on, let’s get in the water! Even if you’re not from Paris, you’re bound to have heard of it – it’s one of the best-known and most popular bathing spots. Long before it became a regularly visited place to live, the Bassins de la Villette were in fact a hub of river trade. Built in 1808 and located in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, it is the largest artificial lake in the city. Linking the Canal de l’Ourcq to the Canal Saint-Martin, the first basin is exactly 699 metres long and 70 metres wide, while the 2nd basin, dating from 1885, is in fact an 85-tonne lift bridge that divides the two basins.

5. Cergy-Pontoise
