This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Granada, Capital of the Nasrid Kingdom

This charming walkway runs alongside the Darro River, which winds through Granada at the foot of the Alhambra, just above you on the hillside to your left.

Its name, the “Walkway of the Sad,” refers to the funeral processions that once passed along this path on their way to the San José cemetery. Laid out in 1609 to improve access to the Sacromonte district behind you, the walkway quickly became a popular meeting spot for locals. Over the years, it hosted festivals, games, theatre performances, and concerts, bringing plenty of life and joy to the neighbourhood.

It’s still one of the most visited places in Granada today, especially by those walking along the river from the Albaicín to the city centre.
