Calle Ermita

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Granada, Capital of the Nasrid Kingdom
This is one of Granada’s most iconic streets! It echoes the city’s rich historical past, shaped by successive Muslim dynasties. With its small, traditional shops that feel like something out of a North African souk, Calle Ermita is laid out like a traditional bazaar, where stalls once overflowed with Arab silk and exotic spices.
If you walk to the end of the street and look to your left, the bazaar continues along Calle Alcaicería, once the main artery of Granada’s lively marketplace. Although much of the area was destroyed by fire, the streets have been rebuilt in tribute to the city’s Moorish heritage.
Back in the Middle Ages, this district was much larger and played a key role in Granada’s economy, with silk trading as one of its main commercial activities.
Today, Calle Ermita is a popular tourist spot, so you’ll likely see quite a few visitors, but don’t let that put you off, it’s absolutely worth exploring. You might just find a traditional handmade souvenir to take home with you.
