St. Peter’s Church
This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Salzburg, Meeting Mozart
In front of you stands the beautiful church connected to St. Peter’s Abbey.
Originally built in the Romanesque style in the 7th century, it now features a Baroque design, much like the rest of the abbey complex.
Step inside if you can, it’s well worth it. You’ll find several chapels, one of which has preserved its original Gothic character, offering a striking contrast to the rest of the interior, which was later reworked in Rococo style. The vaulted ceiling is adorned with frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Saint Peter, while Saint Benedict and Saint Rupert are featured on the left and right walls, respectively.
It’s a stunning piece of architecture that’s been part of Salzburg’s cultural and historical heritage for many centuries.
