Wat Ratchabophit

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Bangkok, A spiritual reawakening and more…
On your right stands the beautifully decorated Wat Ratchabophit – you can’t miss it. Built in the 19th century, this Buddhist temple is an example of traditional Thai architecture. Just look at its layout, ornate details, dazzling colours, and gold features – it doesn’t get more Thai than this! Surprisingly, you’ll see lots of Italian influences inside. After visiting the land of pizza and pasta, King Rama V was so inspired that he decided to bring Italy to the temple. Wat Ratchabophit takes you through an exquisite piece of religious architecture—completely different to anything found in the West. It’s also home to the royal cemetery, where King Rama V’s family rests. And best of all, entry is free!
