In Blois, comic art has truly found its home. Set inside a former 19th-century post office, the Maison de la BD is a one-of-a-kind venue entirely devoted to the ninth art. Step inside and you’ll find temporary exhibitions, a vast specialized library, and even workshops where you can try your hand at creating your own comic strips. All year round, the place celebrates comic art in every form. And every November, Blois becomes the capital of the ninth art with the bd BOUM festival. First launched in 1984, it brings together dozens of French and international authors for three lively days and draws nearly twenty thousand visitors. The program is packed with book signings, exhibitions, talks, debates, and plenty of workshops for young people to discover drawing and storytelling. The festival also presents several prestigious awards, including the Grand Boum, which recognizes an author’s entire career. Free and open to everyone, bd BOUM turns the whole city into a joyful celebration, where comic art is shared between lifelong enthusiasts and the simply curious.
