Savène Square
This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Albi, Retracing the history of the Red City
I know, it might feel like we’re a tad off the tourist trail! But do not fret – it’s all part of the plan! Mark my words: this little detour will take you to one of the most charming spots in Albi! Just a few steps ahead, at the far end of this small dead-end street, you’ll find the Savène Square. It’s but a preview of Albi’s old town, all picturesque and peaceful as can be. Look around you! This quaint cobblestone square is lined with real-life dollhouses sporting colorful, flower-bedecked façades – well, this last part depends on the season. Cozy village vibes at their finest! Time to cast your eyes upwards – you gotta see this view! Peeking over the charming houses is the bell tower of the Saint-Cécile Cathedral. Talk about Instagram-worthy! Keep your camera handy as we continue down Castelviel Street all the way to Castle Square. There, you’ll find a giant city name sign that spells “Albi”, cleverly installed in line with the cathedral’s imposing bell tower.
