Lucky you! In a few seconds, you will be standing in one of the most magical spots in Albi! Just head down these stairs and take a left until you reach the terrace. Prepare to be blown away by the stunning panoramic views over the Tarn river! As for the beautiful gardens below, we owe them to the first archbishop of Albi, who knew how to make the most of this land that once was the place-of-arms, where troops assembled for defense. Such was the transformation that, by the end of the 17th century, the whole military feel was gone to give way to this lovely French formal garden. This stunning ensemble, with its boxwood landscaping and colorful flowers, wouldn’t be the same without the hard work of the one and only gardener. He takes care of this whole place without using any chemicals – pretty impressive, right? Thanks to its history, allure and botanical diversity, the courtyard has been designated “Jardin remarquable”, aka “Remarkable Garden of France”, a distinction awarded to gardens of great historical significance and aesthetics. Let’s be honest, we’re not done yet and some of you are already snapping photos like crazy. No worries, we totally get it! From here, you can get a great shot of the banks of the Tarn river or the immense bell tower of the cathedral. Take your pick, you can’t go wrong with either!
