Minimalist in style and deeply cherished by Bilbao’s residents, the Museum of Fine Arts is one of Spain’s leading cultural institutions. Founded in 1908 with the help of local art collectors, the museum has stood here since 1945, after merging with the Museum of Modern Art.

It has been expanded several times over the years to make room for new collections, and today it spans nearly 14,000 square metres, divided into 33 galleries hosting both permanent and temporary exhibitions.

With over 6,000 works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, and decorative arts, the museum offers a journey through art history from the 12th century to the present day. Among its highlights, don’t miss The Washerwomen in Arles by Gauguin or Portrait of the Countess of Noailles by Zuloaga.
